Crypt aka Daniel Shell has been producing bass-driven, dancefloor-orientated music over the last seven years. His early production was heavily influenced by the movement of dubstep, especially from the dark 2-Step garage sound that first emerged at the now infamous FWD Nights at London club Plastic people.

Crypt saw his first release in 2010 on ‘Four40 Records’ with the “Enclosed EP”. The EP was a fusion of 2-Step garage and dubstep with unnerving vocals and deep bassline’s, which contributed to the success of the artist’s first release. Crypt has been busy in the studio experimenting in new sounds and exploring new genres since his last release in October 2011 on ‘Get Some Records’.

His forthcoming release on ‘Nineteen89 Records’ entitled ‘Feel You’ demonstrates the young-producers ability to create high-energy dancefloor music which could appeal to a wide verity of music fans and Dj’s alike as the EP has a clear blend of influences spanning from the late 90’s house era to the more recent bass-heavy techno. Crypt is without a doubt one to watch for the future.

Feel You is out on the 22nd of July – Its available both Digitally and on limited 12″ Vinyl

Nineteen89 boss Conor Wheeler provides us with his top 5 tracks of May 2013.

(1) Crypt – Feel You (Forthcoming Nineteen89)

This has been getting rinsed in my sets over the last few months and it has always got a great reaction from the dancefloor where ever its been played. High-energy, deep smooth bass-line and a great classic house sounding piano that comes in after the second breakdown. We at Nineteen89 cant wait to release this; every track off the EP is huge!

(2) Beau’ – Sigh (Unsigned Dub)

If you have seen me Dj you will notice that I don’t play that much deep house. I mainly stick to techno, Disco and the high-energy acid stuff when it comes to house music. But I cannot stop playing this track! I feel Beau has been heavily influenced my drum and bass duo Commix when he wrote ‘Sigh’ and the result speaks for itself…its brilliant! I can imaging Seth Troxler spinning this at his afternoon DC-10 Ibiza residency. It appeal’s to so many different Dj’s

(3) Rory Philips – Tunnel Vision (Mixed Fortunes)

Feel good energetic electro Disco from Rory Philips. Such a great track always goes down a treat in the clubs.

(4) Sebmann – Untitled (Forthcoming Nineteen89)

This is so fresh I haven’t even had a chance to play it out yet. Dark hard hitting Techno(ish) B-Side to SHTUN from the young Scottish Producer ‘Sebmann’. Creepy vocal samples drop into a heavy bassline with percussion that sound like its been recorded in an old steel factory. Huge!

(5) Rumah – Creech (unsigned dub)

Everything that Sean aka Rumah sends me is absolute fire and Creech is no exception. Heavyweight tribal sounding techno, its the sort of thing you would hear an army from hell playing as they destroyed earth. Real 5AM gutter music, not for the weak hearted!

This week’s tune of the week comes from the Chicago via Berlin badman ‘Tevo Howard’ with his new(ish) single ‘House Room’ featuring Rick Howard (Im guessing they are related) on the vocals.

This tune is technically brilliant. Tevo has somehow managed to produce something that sounds like a classic house tune which on first listen (if you were unaware that it was only released a few weeks ago) I would guarantee you would assume it was from the late 90′s / early 2000 Moodyman era. If you listen closely you can hear a number of different instruments – piano, guitar, synths, bongo’s etc.

On top of all that ‘House Room’ genuinely has a great rhythm in which you could imagine hearing both at a sunrise ‘Cafe Del mar’ set as well as a 3am Sweaty London party.

This week’s tune of the week comes from the soulful Londoner Gabriel Benn also known as ‘Tuesday Born’ with his soothing track ‘Sleep with Stars’.

I instantly fell in love with this record from the first time I heard it. It simply has everything I could want in a single piece of production – Jazz influenced piano melodies, James Blake style synths, organic percussion and a seriously soulful vocal from the man himself that humbly repeats “Sleep with the stars above your head” over and over yet works so well.

Its no wonder this is getting heavy support from the likes of Giles Peterson and has even won over a more surprising fan that is Maya Jane Coles. Tuesday Born is one to watch; Audio Doughnuts have discovered an extremely promising talent.

There is no denying that Radiohead are one of Nineteen89’s biggest influences. It’s actually a vey unhealthy obsession.

Thom York is arguably one of the greatest songwriters of all time and long time Radiohead producer Nigel Godrich is one of the world’s greatest producers. So it goes without saying that Atoms for Peace – Thom York’s new(ish) musical project fails to disappoint. Band members include Flea (Red Hot Chilli Peppers), Joey Waronker (Beck/R.E.M), Nigel Godrich and Thom York.

So our track of the week comes from Atoms of Peace with their synth heavy electronic crossover masterpiece entitled ‘Default’.
